Joe Concannon Award
Jim Pancykowski
From USCHO:  "The Gridiron Club of Greater Boston announced Tuesday the 20 semifinalists for the 13th Joe Concannon Award, which recognizes the best American-born player in New England playing at the Division II or Division III level. "

The award is named after Joe Concannon, a  "lifelong devotee of college hockey, former member of the Walter Brown Award Selection Committee and, as a journalist, a staunch advocate for the amateur athletes he knew and covered." (from the Gridirion Club of Greater Boston

Six NESCAC players were included on the list: Ollie Koo (D/F, Jr.) and Daniel Weiniger (F,  Sr.) of Bowdoin,  Nick Lanza (F, Jr. ) of Colby, Sean Dougherty (G, So.) of Williams, Dylan Plimmer (F, Sr.) of Tufts and Keith Buehler (F, Jr.) of Wesleyan

Dougherty is the only sophomore and Buehler, Lanza and Koo are three of only four juniors on a senior laden list. Seven NESCAC players, all seniors, have won the award in its 13 year history, with the most recent being Jeff Landers (D, '09) of Amherst in 2009 and Tom Maldonado (D, '08) of Middlebury in 2008.

Bowdoin players have  twice won the award, with Mike Carosi (F, '02) earning the honors in 2002 and Adam Dann (F, '06) bringing home the hardware in 2006.  Jim Pancykowski (pictured)  (G, '04) of Wesleyan won the award in 2004, the only year a Cardinal won. Pancykowski currently serves as an assistant coach on the Wesleyan hockey staff.

Colby has had one winner, Greg Osborne (F, '07) in 2007. Joseph Ori (F, '05) of Trinity rounds out the list of NESCAC winners with his victory in 2005. No players from Williams, Connecticut College or Tufts have won the award. Hamilton players are not eligible, as their school is in New York.

The finalists and winner will be announced in March, right before the Frozen Four, with the formal presentation coming at the New England Hockey Writers’ dinner in April.

Bracketology
Those familiar with college basketball and "March Madness"  know "Brackeology", the study and prediction of who will make the 68 team NCAA Division 1 men's basketball tournament, and where those teams will be seeded.

D3Hockey.com does a Bracketology for the Division-III men's hockey tournament, now that the first public NCAA regional rankings are out. Only Bowdoin makes it from the NESCAC. Find out where they are predicted to be seeded and who they would play, here.
