The Lowdown: Goliath vs. Goliath
Widely considered to be the two best teams in the NESCAC heading into the season , Bowdoin and Amherst enter the game 1st and 3rd in the league, respectively. Bowdoin sports one of the three undefeated records in D-III men's hockey and a national ranking of 6th in the USCHO.com poll, but haven't played in almost a month since their 7-1 December 8th drubbing of Conn. College. After some tough one goal losses to Trinity and Williams in early Dec., Amherst strolls into 2013 having won the Cardinal Classic in Plattsburgh, NY, including a win over 9th ranked Plattsburgh.
Key(s) to the Game: Bowdoin's offense vs Amherst Defense
The game features the best offense(Bowdoin) vs the best defense (Amherst) in the conference. Bowdoin senior forward Daniel Weinigier (9-5-14) leads the league in scoring while Amherst has not missed a step replacing Sid Watson Award winning goaltender Jonathan La Rose with senior netminder Nathan Corey (1.63 GA). Bowdoin plays an up-tempo style of hockey complimented by their olympic sized rink, so Amherst might have the slight advantage playing at home on a smaller sheet of ice.
