NESCAC Roundup 1/5/13

Colby 3-9-0 (1-7-0 NESCAC): 0
Amherst 8-4-1 (5-3-0 NESCAC): 2

It was over when...: Connor Brown (F, Fr.) scored a first period goal for the Lord Jeffs and they never looked back, winning 3-0 and out-shooting the Mules 31-4 (no, that's not a typo).

Player(s) of the game...: Mike Moher (F, Sr.) and  Connor Brown (F, Fr.) combined for a freshman/senior one-two punch, each scoring one goal and an assist in Amherst's dominant performance.

Box Score: Colby 0/Amherst 3

Bowdoin 11-0-1 (7-0-1 NESCAC): 6
Hamilton 3-6-2 (2-5-1 NESCAC): 2

It was over when…:  Before the game, if you go by Bowdoin’s undefeated record and 43-16-7 series lead with Hamilton heading into the game.  The Continentals were able to get out ahead, leading 1-0 with 5 minutes to go in the second period, but with Bowdoin consistently out-shooting them the lead was always tenuous at best.  Bowdoin took the lead with two minutes left in the second, and never looked back on their way to a 6-2 victory.  First league loss of more than 1 goal for Hamilton.

Player(s) of the game: Harry Matheson (F, Jr.) Mattheson led the victorious Polar Bears with 3 points (1-2-3). (isn't that a pretty, arithmetic stat line?)

Williams 7-2-1 (6-1-1 NESCAC): 2
Wesleyan 5-5-1 (1-3-1 NESCAC): 1
It was over when...: The buzzer sounded. Williams took a 2-1 lead in the second period on a goal by Matt Doyle (F, Jr.) and held on to win a hard fought battle. Shots were relatively close with Wesleyan edging Williams 27-23. With the win, Williams solidifies second place in the 'CAC behind only the 1972 Dolphins Bowdoin Polar Bears.

Player(s) of the gameSean Dougherty (G, So.) Dougherty made 26 saves to hold the third best offense in the conference to only one goal. Only let up two goals for the weekend.

Middlebury 5-5-2 (4-4-2 NESCAC): 1
Trinity 6-3-2 (3-1-2 NESCAC): 2

It was over when...: Trinity goalie Benjamin Coulthard (G, Jr) collapsed (not really), having made a career high 53 saves. Trinity took the lead in the second off a goal by Jon Hawkrigg ( F, Fr.) , and held on in the third, which saw both sides hitting the crossbar and having goals negated by offside calls.  Middlebury out-shot Trinity 54-22.

Player(s) of the game: Benjamin Coulthard (G, Jr) 53 saves. 'Nuff said.
