1st: Hamilton, winners (losers?) of our worst jersey in the NESCAC poll, hit the ice with some new jerseys. Quattrocchi in net for Hamilton, Messina for Bowdoin. Ollie Koo on defense again. Hamilton goes on the PP  5 minutes in on a crosscheck from MacGregor. Marko Brelih scores (assist Ruberto) to put the Conts up 1-0 with 11:30 to go. Bowdoin ties it on a behind the back assist from Mcginnis to Lockwood with 8 to go in the period on a PP goal.

Hamilton goes on their second power play of the game when Weiniiger is called for boarding. Can't capitalize and Lockwood scores his second of the game 17:19 in to put the Polar Bears up 2-1. Shots in favor of Bowdoin 16-9. Bowdoin 1-1 on PP. Hamilton 0-2.

2nd: Pat Curtis scores early in the second for the Conts and ties the game at 2. Later, a shorthanded goal by  Kenny Matheson puts the Conts up 3-2. Bowdoin kills off a 5-3 at the end of the period. Shots in favor of Bowdoin 26-15 at the end of 2. Hamilton power play 0-4 and Bowdon 1-2 for the game.

3rd: Koo is moved back up to forward alongsde Matheson and Downey for the third period. Macgregor goes top shelf to tie at 3 with 8 minutes remaining in regulation. Bowdoin takes the lead with about 3:30 to go on a McGarry goal from the red line, in a lapse of concentration for Hamilton goalie Joe Quattrocchi. Kyle Lockwood gets a hat-trick on an empty net goal to make it 5-3.

Trying to hold on to the 3-2 lead the Conts surprisingly took into the third period, Hamilton turned to a defensive style. A look at the Box score shows a 36-19 shots advantage for the Polar Bears, but only 5-2 in the third. This defensive style by the Continentals led to this tweet from Chris Roy of the Maine Hockey Journal.

The Bowdoin Orient posted the final 38 seconds of the game and ensuing celebration on YouTube. Bowdoin Sports has posted a compilation of the Bowdoin goals on YouTube as well (embedded below).

Bowdoin hosts the NESCAC Semi-finals next week. They play fifth seeded Middlebury on Saturday March 2nd at 1PM.

#2 Colby       1
#7 Williams   2
FINAL         Preview    Box Score  Williams Recap  Colby Recap

1st: Sam Parker in net for the Mules. Dougherty in net for the Ephs (duh). Williams gets called for a too many men on the ice penalty about halfway through the period. Nick Anderson scores on an assist from Craig Kitto, displaying "great chemistry" according to announcers, and Ephs up 1-0 with about seven minutes to play in the period.

2nd: Commentators say refs letting alot of calls go as to avoid ticky tack penalties in the playoffs. Willams gets first power play early in 2nd. Williams announcers impressed with defesnive effort of the Mules, who gave up 9 goals earlier this season in Williamstown. Dugdale called for a penalty later in the second, which led to a Ray Zeek shot on an open net that he couldn't finish. Williams responds after the colby pp with a Craig Kitto goal to go up 2-0. But moments later, Matt Gelnaw scores with 4.6 seconds left to make it 2-1.

3rd: Williams commentators say offense is being a bit cautious, playing a defensive style of hockey up 1 in the third.  They say game is physical, but not chippy, as players are keeping things "between the whistles." Colby pulls the goalie in the final minute, but to no avail. Announcers give first star of the game to Craig Kitto (1-1-2).

Williams plays Trinity in the semis next Saturday, March 2nd at 4 PM (hosted by Bowdoin).

OT: Next goal earns a trip to Brunswick. Frenzied pace, as both teams claw for a victory. Dueling chants of "Let's go Bantams" and "Let's go Cardinals" can be heard coming from the stands. With about ten minutes remaing in the first OT, Cardinals hit the post and then Trinity responds by missing an open net. The Bantams Hawrigg and Vered then have a 2-1 but "one too many passes" according to the Trinity announcer, and they can't capitalize. Nolan Daley keeps the "Men in Black" alive with a nice glove save on Jeff Menard. Wesleyan goes on the power play on a Greg Rooney penalty, but a "windmill" save by Coulthard keeps the game going.
