Bowdoin's Jon Landry ('06) signs one-year, two-way NHL contract with Minnesota Wild

Bowdoin's Jon Landry ('06) has signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Minnesota Wild of the NHL. The deal is for  $625,000 according to NHLfreeagents.com.

Landry also had a two way contract with the New York Islanders, but he spent the 2012-13 season with their AHL affiliate Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Landry was invited to Islanders training camp for the strike shortened 2013 season, but ended up being sent back to Bridgeport before the start of the season.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound defenseman had 33 points (8-25-33) and 57 PIM in 72 games at Bridgeport last year. Since graduating from Bowdoin in 2006, the 29 year old journeyman has played on seven teams in five leagues in three countries, and he even picked up a masters degree along the way.

Landry started out as a forward at Bowdoin, where he became a member of the hallowed 100 point club with 121 points (51-70-121). To that end, today happens to be 121 days from the start of NESCAC opening night on November 15th. Landry will most likely start the 2013-14 season with the Iowa Wild of the AHL. If he does get the call north to Minnesota, he will become the second Polar Bear alum to make it to the big show. Fred Ahern ('74) appeared in 146 NHL games from 1974-78 with the California Golden Seals/Cleveland Barons (now defunct) and Colorado Rockies (now the New Jersey Devils).
