With the Stanley Cup playoffs and NHL Entry draft over, NHL teams are conducting summer development camps. In addition to teams' draft picks, many current and former NCAA players get invites. Hamilton's Bennet Schneider ( D, '14) and Williams' Greg Johnson (D, '16) were among the camp invitees. Schneider is at Islanders camp and Johnson just finished camp with the Dallas Stars.

This is the third invite to Islanders camp for Schneider, a 6'3" 218 lb. defenseman from Fort Myers, FL.  The Islanders invited Schneider in 2011 and 2012 after his freshman and sophomore campaigns as a Continental. Schneider had 2 assists (0-2-2) and 34 penalty minutes as a junior at Hamilton this past season.

Schneider is on the blue team (the 47 prospects are split up into blue and orange teams) this year, which includes the 15th overall selection in the 2013 draft, Ryan Pullock. The orange team has Riley Wetmore, who just finished up his senior season at U-Mass Lowell. The RiverHawks made the school's first trip to the Frozen Four in 2012-13 under the tutelage of Norm Bazin, former Hamilton bench boss and Schneider's coach for his freshman year in Clinton, NY.

The five day camp started on Tuesday, with the annual Blue and Orange scrimmage to be held at Nassau Coliseum tonight, July 11, 2013 at 7:00 PM. Tickets for the event are $10, with all proceeds going to the Islanders Children's Foundation.  The teams will play two 25 minute halves, followed by a skills competition consisting of a shootout, hardest shot competition and team breakaway competition. The event will be streamed on neyorkislanders.com.

Johnson just finished up the Stars week long development camp yesterday, Wednesday, July 10. The Dallas, TX native played in all 27 Ephs games in his rookie season, netting eight points (2-6-8) along the way. One of the two goals for the 6'2" 190 lb. blueliner came in Williams dramatic come from behind 4-3 OT win at Hamilton on the final day of the 2012-13 NESCAC regular season. The Ephs were losing 3-0 with less than ten minutes to go in the game, before three late goals forced the extra frame.

Johnson got to share the ice with some top level prospects at Stars camp, including forward Valeri Nichushkin (10th overall in 2013); forward Jason Dickinson (29th overall in 2013) and forward Radek Faksa (13th overall in 2012).
