Players: Williams vs. Trinity at Fenway Park January 7, 2014 at 7:30 PM

When the complete list of Frozen Fenway games was released in late September, one cryptic game noticeably stood out, at least for Division III hockey fans. The second half of a D-III doubleheader on January 7th, 2014 was listed as "TBA."

Last week, there were rumors on the interwebs of that "TBA" game being a NESCAC game, Trinity vs Williams, specifically. The Sports Information Director at Williams would not confirm, so we were left with the rumblings still being rumors.

Yesterday, the likelihood of that match-up coming to fruition under the lights in Boston increased when 2013-14 Ephs co-captain Paul Steinig (D, '14) tweeted out the following:

And if you don't trust blueliners, fellow Williams senior Matt Doyle (F, '14)  also tweeted out that the Ephs and Bantams would clash by the Green Monster.
Without official word yet, we don't know the exact details of the game including tickets, who the home team is, etc. Presumably Williams would be home with the Fenway affair taking the place of the scheduled Saturday, January 11th game between the two 'Cac schools in Williamstown, MA. The Bantams home game against the Ephs is not scheduled until February 9th.

Despite being in the same state as the Red Sox home, Williams is actually quite a bit farther away from Fenway than Trinity. Williamstown is a nearly three hour drive (155 miles) from Yawkey Way, while Trinity's Hartford, CT campus is only 100 miles from Boston. Both teams would come into the game off of a non-conference weekend to start 2014. Williams is playing in the competitive Cardinal Classic with Hobart, NESCAC brethren Hamilton and host SUNY Plattsburgh. Trinity is playing a pair of games against Western New England and Becker.

Trinity is no stranger to outdoor games at big venues in the recent past. When the New York Rangers AHL affiliate Connecticut Whale had their HockeyFest in 2011, Trinity and Wesleyan got to play an outdoor game at UConn's Renstschler Field in East Hartford, CT on February 15, 2011. The Bantams won, 3-1, and 2012-13 NESCAC puckers Larry Bero (Trinity), Keith Buehler (Wesleyan) and Donald Kleckner (Wesleyan) all had assists.

Frozen Fenway is an annual series of outdoor college and high school games, as well as public skating sessions, at the iconic baseball stadium. The event started on New Year's Day 2010 when the Boston Bruins played the Philadelphia Flyers in the NHL Winter Classic. This year, festivities run from December 28, 2013 through January 13, 2014.

Perhaps we should add Fenway to the poll for best rink in the NESCAC?
