Tyler Young (#17 in purple) puts in the game winner in rematch of last year's NESCAC championship |
Bowdoin Polar Bears 10-5-2 (6-5-1 NESCAC) 1
It was over when...: Williams freshman Tyler Young (F, '17) nailed home a loose puck with only 2:34 remaining for the game winning goal. The Ephs rebounded after they lost their first NESCAC game of the season on Friday to Colby, also by a score of 2-1. Williams sweeps the season series and avengess, at least somewhat, a 2-1 loss the last time these two played at Sidney Watson Arena in the 2013 NESCAC championship game.
The Ephs dominated the possession battle and outshot the Polar Bears 44-24. Bowdoin senior Steve Messina (G, '14) was stellar in net, turning aside 42 shots but falling to 5-4-0 on the season. Reigning NESCAC Player of the Week Sean Dougherty (G, '15) stopped 23 shots to improve to 10-3-2. Williams went 0/5 on the power play and true to form as the least penalized team in the 'Cac, only gave up one power play opportunity to the Polar Bears, who did not capitalize on their brief foray into man advantage hockey.
Player of the game: Tyler Young (F, '7) The freshman from Sayville, NY has three goals on the season and two of them came this weekend, including Saturday's game winner. Only one other Eph scored this weekend as Williams split a pair of 2-1 games.

Middlebury Panthers 7-7-2 (5-4-1 NESCAC) 5
Colby Mules 9-6-3 (6-5-1 NESCAC) 2
It was over when...: Middlebury exploded for three goals in the second to break open a game that was tied 1-1 after one period of play. The win came a day after Colby handed Williams the Ephs first loss in conference all season and Middlebury blew a 4-3 lead in the final minute of regulation to lose 5-4 in OT to Bowdoin. The Panthers sweep the season series with Colby as Middlebury handily defeated the Mules, 7-1, in Vermont back on opening weekend.
Middlebury's Mike Peters (G, '15), playing for the first time since being yanked from net in a November 30th loss to Plattsburgh, made 22 saves to improve to 4-1-2 on the season. Colby workhorse Sam Parker (G, '15) also made 22 saves in a losing effort to fall to 8-6-2. Both teams went 0-5 on the power play.
Player of the game: Thomas Freyre (D, '14) The senior from New Canaan, CT had his first two points of the season, including an assist on what proved to be the game winner and an insurance goal for the Panthers.

Trinity Bantams 12-3-0 (7-2-0 NESCAC) 4
Conn College Camels 3-11-1 (2-7-0 NESCAC) 3 OT
It was over when...: Trinity freshman Sean Orlando (F, '17) deflected in a puck with four seconds left in overtime for his second goal of the game and team leading 14th tally of the season. The win was the fifth straight for Trinity and puts them just two points behind Williams for first place in the NESCAC headed into the Bantams Sunday afternoon matinee with last placed Tufts. For the Camels, it's their fourth OT loss in six extra session games this season. They finish their weekend at Dayton Arena on Sunday afternoon against Wesleyan.
Senior Mike Petchnoka (G, '14) turned aside 35 shots but fell to 2-5-1 as the Bantams outshot the Camels 39 -16. Ben Coulthard (G, '14) needed just 13 saves to improve to 9-2-0 on the season. Conn College's second leading scorer, Keith Veronesi (F, '14) missed his first game of the season.
Player of the game: Sean Orlando (F, '17) Scored two goals, including the game winner, to extend his points streak to eight games. Orlando leads the NESCAC in overall goal scoring with 14 tallies, but it's not just a matter of racking up goals against weak OOC opponents. The freshman from Ivyland, PA is tied with Conn College's JC Cangelosi (F, '14) for most conference goals on the season with nine.

Wesleyan Cardinals 8-6-1 (3-6-0 NESCAC) 3
Tufts Jumbos 3-12-0 (1-8-0 NESCAC) 1
It was over when...: Keith Buehler (F, '14) put in an empty netter for his second tally of the game to seal the Cardinals win just 37 seconds after Tufts had cut it to a 2-1 game on a Brian Oullette (D, '16) goal. The win snaps a six game losing streak in conference for the Caridnals and the Tufts loss keeps the Jumbos winless at home (0-7-0) for the season. Wesleyan faces off against Conn College Sunday afternoon while Tufts hosts Trinity.
In an upper/underclassmen battle in net, Cardinals freshman Dawson Sprigings (G, '17) got the best of his senior Jumbos counterpart, Greg Jenkins (G, '14). Sprigings made 31 saves to improve to 5-5-1 on the season while Jenkins made 30 saves to fall to 1-1-0. Neither team scored on the power play (Wesleyan 0/3, Tufts 0/2).
Player of the game: Keith Buehler (F, '14) The first multi-goal game this season for the latest member of the Cardinals 100 point club.
