Non-Conference Preview 12/5/14

Trinity (4-1-1; 3-0-1) at Utica (3-4-2; 0-4-1 ECAC-W)
7 PM    Utica, NY  Video Feed Live Stats  Radio

Last Sunday the discussion of Trinity's upgraded out-of-conference schedule went from abstract concept to concrete reality as the Bantams lost 5-3 to undefeated and nationally ranked UMASS-Boston in Hartford. Trinity takes their OOC rehabilitation tour on the road Friday to the Aud to take on a Utica team that is far more dangerous than their 3-4-2 record suggests. The Pioneers have disposed of their last two opponents, the NESCAC's own Hamilton and Conn College. The game before that they tied 2nd ranked Oswego in front of a D-III record crowd at the Carrier Dome.

Friday night should see a packed crowd at the 4,000 seat Aud, as opposed to the Hamilton game which was "sold-out" officially but was only half full. It's the tenth annual Teddy Bear Toss in which UC fans bring teddy bears to be donated to charity, which they throw out on the ice after the Pioneers first goal of the game. The game will be televised locally on WPNY - My Network TV. You can see the 2013 broadcast of the toss below.

.

UC has ordered special jerseys for this year's game and UC has published a "How-To-Guide" for the toss for fans as well as some tidbits about the game. The first Teddy Bear toss was in 2005 with UC beating Hamilton, UC has a 7-1-1 record in TBT games and the Pioneers have scored first in all nine games.

Utica has gone with Providence/USM transfer Dylan Wells (G, '16) in the last two games, both wins, but senior Mike Taffe (G, '15) earned a tie against #2 Oswego the game before that. Will be interesting to see who former Hamilton Continental player and UC coach Gary Heenan puts between the pipes against a potent though at times streaky Bantam attack.

Trinity will try to be the first team to shutout the Pioneers on Teddy Bear Toss night and make fans make their donations after the game instead of on the ice. In honor of that, here's Minus the Bear with "Zeros" .

Wesleyan (2-4-0; 1-3-0 NESCAC) at Hobart (5-3-0; 3-4-2 ECAC-W)
7:30 PM    Geneva, NY

The Cardinals head to upstate New York for OOC games against Hobart and Elmira this weekend. First up are the Statesman, winners of three of their last four games, including an OT victory over the aforementioned Pioneers. The teams last met at Wesleyan in December 2013 with the Cardinals winning 6-2 on the strength of an Elliot Vorel (F, '17) hat-trick. The freshman phenom has fallen into a sophomore slump, netting just two points (1-1-2) in six games after 26 points in 25 games a freshman, with most of those coming in the first half of his rookie campaign.

To defend the honor of the 'Cac, we want the hat-trick against Hobart Elliot Vorel back. So, here's The Jackson Five with the classic "I Want You Back"
