11/21/15 Preview: Afternoon Games

The busiest day of opening weekend featuring four conference games, including the openers for Bowdoin, Colby, Middlebury and Williams. Hamilton also hosts Franklin Pierce tonight, while Amherst has the rest of the weekend off after defeating Hamilton last night. First up are the afternoon games.

Tufts (0-1-0;0-1-0 NESCAC) at Wesleyan (0-0-1; 0-0-1 NESCAC)
3 PM    Spurrier-Snyder Rink     Middletown, CT

These two last met  in February in Middletown with Tufts emerging victorious, 3-1. On opening weekend 2014, Wesleyan earned the first of only two conference wins with a 5-2 victory at Tufts on the strength of two Jay Matthews (F, '16) goals. A win over Tufts today would give the Cardinals three points after a tie against Conn College last night in which the Cardinals carried most of the play. Wesleyan only had four conference points last season. Tufts will look to earn new coach Pat Norton his first win after the Jumbos dropped a penalty filled opener at defending national champs Trinity.

In an age where virtually all NESCAC games get webcast, it is sad that opening weekend contest won't get to be seen by the Jumbo and Cardinal faithful not in Connecticut.  The Wesleyan Athletics website also tends to be very slow getting recaps up, with last night's opener still not appearing on their site as of 10 AM Saturday morning.

In protest of the game not being webcast (thought it could, they have in the past done it last minute), we present giants of the 70s NYC rock scene, Television, with "See No Evil" off their iconic debut, Marquee Moon.

The NEHJ cover articles have been written, the polls with Trinity at preseason #1 have been cast, the banner has been raised, and last night it was finally back to puck for the national champion Trinity Bantams. After exacting a bit of revenge on Tufts for last season's NESCAC Quarterfinals, the Bantams welcome interstate foe Conn College to Hartford. The Bantams swept the regular season series against Conn College last season as they did with everyone but Amherst/Hamilton.

Conn College will need a better defensive performance than they put up yesterday to do what no NESCAC team has done in the regular season since February of 2014: win in Hartford. The Bantams have gone 13-0-1 in regular season conference games at home since that 3-2 loss to the Purple&White. If the Camels give up 42 shots (or more) to Trinity as they did reigning cellar-dweller Wesleyan it will take a Herculean effort from Tom Conlin (G, '16) to pull off the upset.

The Camels hope to make breaking the Bantams conference home regular season winning streak a reality. So, here's CC alums Clap Your Hands Say Yeah with "Beyond Illusion"
