Conference Roundup 1/23/16

In New London, Trinity TJ Sherman scored a short-handed OT goal to lift Trinity(11-3-1; 7-20 NESCAC) past Conn College(3-11-2; 0-8-2 NESCAC) 4-3. The OT win was the fourth of its kind (2nd in conference) for the first place Bantams while the OT loss was the third such for the last place Camels. Losing on a 3-on-1 short handed rush sums up the type of season it has been for CC.

In the Pine Tree State, Williams (11-4-1; 7-2-1 NESCAC) rebounded from a 1-0 loss at Bowdoin on Friday night to take care of business and down Colby (5-8-4; 3-7-2 NESCAC) 3-1. Not to be outdone by the Ephs breakout freshman goalie Michael Pinios, senior Noah Klag made the most of his start in net with a 32 save performance for the win. Sophomore Dan Doherty scored two in the first, including what proved to be the game winner.

Elsewhere in Maine, superfrosh Cody Todesco scored in the final two minutes to lift Bowdoin (7-7-3; 4-5-3 NESCAC) to a 2-1 victory over Middlebury (5-7-4; 4-2-4 NESCAC) to complete a weekend sweep over the Panthers and Ephs in which the Polar Bears only gave up 1 goal. Sophmore Peter Cronin made 39 saves on the afternoon and stopped 72 of 73 shots seen on the weekend.

At the Malden Valley Forum 2 muncipal rink - home of the "Let's Get Ready to Rumble!" Jock Jams goal song - Tufts (6-6-4; 2-5-3 NESCAC) easily handled the visiting Wesleyan Cardinals (1-8-7; 1-3-6 NESCAC) 4-1.. The Jumbos end the weekend only one point behind seventh/eight place Wesleyan/Colby for the last playoff spot and with two less games played than the Mules.

Six different Continental scored - including seldom dressed freshman Richard Court getting his first collegiate goal - as Hamilton (11-3-2; 6-2-2 NESCAC) finished up their non-conference schedule (5-1-0) with a 6-2 drubbing of lowly Daniel Webster. The win extended the Continentals winning streak to 11 straight and gave them a win total that matches their 2012-13 and 2012-14 outputs combined.
