The Lowdown: Bridge over troubled waters
It's definitely not panic time yet in Vermont, but Middlebury could certainly use a multi-point weekend to sooth the pains of their recent 1-6-0 skid. Playing at home against last placed Colby might be just the bridge back to success for the Panthers. The Mules did show they have some kick in a 2-2 tie against Trinity last weekend, but the Panthers at home in their olympic sized rink should be able to take care of business if they execute. The two teams met in Maine opening night on November 16th, with Middlebury winning 5-2.
Key(s) to the game: Execute
Middlebury has the clear advantage from talent to home ice. If they can stay out of the penalty box and execute their game plan, they should be able to take this game. If Colby wants to win, they will need to bring their A game and take it to the Panthers physically.
Players to watch
Colby - Nick Lanza (F, Jr.) was the only Mule to score (3-0-0) last week, ending the weekend with more than twice as many goals (9-7-16) as the next Colby player (who has four).
Middlebury - Lousi Belisle (F, Jr.) The Panthers leading scorer (7-5-12) hasn't scored since December 8th against Amherst and only has one point (against Plattsburgh) in the ensuing month plus. Can the Quebecois forward light the lamp against the Mules?
And here's a 1981 live version of Simon & Garfunkel's "Bridge Over Troubled Water", just 'cuz.
