The Lowdown: Pine Tree State Affair
Southern Maine comes into Brunswick losers of four in a row. In addition, they lost to the third ranked Polar Bears 5-2 at home back in December. The Huskies also played NESCAC opponent Colby, sweeping the season series against the Mules. For more on Southern Maine and NESCAC non-conference play, check out Benet Pols' new article.
Key(s) to the game: After one...
If the Huskies want the upset, it will be important for them to strike first. Sourthern Maine is 5-4-0 when scoring first and a dreadful 1-7-0 when the other team tallies before them. Also, USM is 4-0-0 when leading after one and 0-9-0 when trailing after the first period.
Players to watch
Southern Maine - Angelo Vrachnas (F, Jr.) had an assist last time out against Bowdoin. The Huskies' leading scorer (7-6-13) also has three goals in the last three games.
Bowdoin - Daniel Weiniger (F, Sr.) scored two last time against the Huskies. The Polar Bears' second leading scorer( (10-7-17) hasn't lit the lamp since January 4th against Amherst. Can he break his scoreless streak in the last non-conference (regular season) game of his Bowdoin career?
Keeping in mind USM needs to strike first if it wants to upset third ranked Bowdoin, we present Bad Religion's "The Empire Strikes First"
