The Lowdown: Home sweet home...
The Camels return home for the first time in over a month after a 2-3-2 run of tournament and road games. They lost their two conference games over the weekend, but exactly a week ago today they took care of non-conference Curry College 5-1. This is the last non-conference game of the year and the Camels would like to kick off their home stand in fashion.
SUNY Canton plays for the first time since a 3-2 OT loss to Tufts on January 5th. The 'Roos are no stranger to the NESCAC, having also played played and lost to Wesleyan, 7-2, and Trinity, 5-0, back in November. Canton is in a unique position as the only D-3 independent, currently in a trial period as an NCAA member after a long, successful history as a junior college hockey program and then club team. The former two- year college is located way, way upstate in Canton, NY, which is also home to the D-1 St. Lawrence University Saints hockey team.
Key(s) to the game:
1. Strike first
Despite Canton's record they actually tend to score first, going 4-5-0 when doing so, but 0-4-0 when their opponents score first. With the 'Roos having to travel over six hours for the game, a layoff of over two weeks, and a recent coaching change, the Camels should look to capitalize and strike first.
2. Think outside the Box
Special teams aren't really special for either of these teams. Neither is great on the power play or penalty kill, but Canton must especially try to cut back on their 24.08 PIM/G average, bad enough for second highest rate in the country.
Players to watch
Canton - John Payne (F, Sr.) The 'Roos leading goal scorer (5-4-9) hasn't put the puck in the net since November.
Conn College - Keith Veronesi (F, Jr.) The Camels leading scorer (7-4-11) went 0-fer over the weekend but did score against Curry last Tuesday.
In honor of Conn College's return home, we present country music trio (we try to stay open minded here) The Farm's "Home Sweet Home" acoustic version...in a barn(because of course it is). Also, before you judge, take a gander at the lead singers (something for everyone).
