The Lowdown: The Maine Anomalies
Start time of this game is an unusual 3:00 PM in Brunswick to accommodate the long ride back to Clinton , NY for the Continentals. This is a tough game to preview with both teams coming off unexpected losses last night. Hamilton, with a chance to nail down 7th place, lost to cellar dweller Colby in Waterville. Meanwhile,  the Polar Bears lost for just the second time this season, falling to 5th place Amherst; the Lord Jeffs scored on four of their first six shots casting a pall over the Sid. Bowdoin never recovered in spite of a hefty shots advantage.

When the two teams first met back in Clinton on January 5th, the Polar Bears traveled back to Maine with a 6-2 victory.

Key(s) to the game: Finish what ya started
Bowdoin needs to finish today what they started yesterday. The Polar Bears were around the net all night but just never closed the deal. Thanks to Trinity's win over Williams last night,  the Polar Bears retain their two point first place cushion in the standings. If either of these teams needs a win today it's the Continentals. They can go a long way to securing a playoff position with a win today and perhaps avoid a long ride back to Brunswick for the first round of the NESCAC tourney.

Players to watch
The all name team.  With his seventh goal of the year last night against Colby, Dom Jancaterino (F/D, Jr.) took over the team goal scoring lead for the only NESCAC squad from outside New England. Meanwhile Joey Quatts, Joe Quattrocchi (G, Jr.) , played a strong game last night despite giving up four goals, stopping 29 Colby shots while taking the loss.

The unnamed goalie.  Goaltending will be a mystery for the Polar Bears tonight. Coach Meagher has adhered to a strict Friday/Saturday rotation between junior Steve Messina (G, Jr.) and sophomore transfer Max Fenkell (G, So.). With Messina being pulled for Fenkell after the first period last night it's hard to guess who will start tonight. Bowdoin needs to keep Messina sharp down the stretch; Messina has a strong fan base among the local youth hockey contingent. A Saturday afternoon start in front of the kids might be just the ticket.

Keeping with last night's anomalous losses for these two clubs, as well as the teams attempt to finish what they started, NESCAC Hockey presents Van Halen's "Finish What Ya Started." The blues and country based song off of the hard rock/metal pioneers 1988 album "OU812," is a definite deviation from their normal songwriting.
