NSN has already been broadcasting Middlebury games for several seasons and as was announced early this year, the Vermont based company began broadcasting Bowdoin and Williams games for the 2013-14 academic year as well. In Williams' case, they will be using a hybrid announcing booth of a professional and a Williams student.
I have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it will be great to have better camera work, replays and announcers that know the game. On the other hand, I'll miss the student announcers with their homer enthusiasm, insider nicknames and campus centric anecdotes. Bowdoin winning at home last year allowed for a student run booth that displayed their unbridled excitement at winning and their dread of looming midterms.
Overall, however, it's a step forward in NESCAC hockey coverage and it's clear why the conference would want to go in this direction.
