NESCAC Official Weekly Release and Player of the Week
The NESCAC has issued its first weekly release and the conference has named freshman Elliot Vorel (F, '17) of Wesleyan as Player of the Week. Vorel had a whopping five points (2-3-5) in his collegiate debut against Tufts, including the game winning goal with four seconds remaining. For an encore, he had two goals in a victory over Conn College to end the weekend with seven points (4-3-7).

One of the goals was an empty net, he benefited from playing with the first line after an ejection on Friday and it wasn't the steepest competitin in the Cac, but it's still quite the feat for your first weekend in college puck. Vorel is the first Wesleyan freshman to earn Player of the Week honors since recent Cardinal John Guay (F, '13) did it in January of 2010. Vorel becomes the first 'Cac rookie to win opening week Player of the Week in the fourteen years the conference has given out the honors.

Wesleyan Argus Weekend Recap
Speaking of Vorel, the Wesleyan student paper, The Wesleyan Argus, has a recap of the Cardinals two win weekend at home with quotes from Vorel, fellow freshman Dawson Sprigings (G, '13) and coach Chris Potter. Sprigings posted his own impressive opening weekend, stopping 33 of the 38 shots he faced in Wesleyan's 5-2 win over Conn College on Saturday. Potter admits that the coaching staff asked the freshman to do more than originally planned in the opening weekend, including asking Cole Morrissette (F, '17) to play defense on Friday and forward on Saturday.
