Wesleyan releases 2013-14 roster

The Wesleyan Cardinals released their 2013-14 roster today.  The short 25 man roster (29 last year) is comprised of 15 veterans and 10 freshman. Three veterans from last year's team did not make this year's roster:  Adam Desanctis (D, '14), John Meehan (F, '15) and Jake Smith (G, '14). DeSanctis played in 14 games last season, but none played a major role for the Cardinals.

Up front, the two-headed scoring monster of Keith Buehler (F, '14) and Nick Craven (F, '13) was broken up by the graduation of Craven, who is now down in North Carolina playing professionally for the Fayettville Fire Antz of the SPHL. Buehler, the higher scoring of the duo (20-20-40) and 2012-13 NESCAC Player of the Year, returns to Middletown. He'll be joined by fellow senior Tommy Hartnett (F, '14), who had 22 points (10-12-22), then after that no returning Cardinal cracked double digit points. Buehler will again captain the Cadinals as he did last year, while Hartnett joins senior defenseman Brad Improta (D, '13) in the assistant captains role.

The Cardinals, who finished sixth in the NESCAC at 6-8-4 (10-11-4 overall) in 2012-13, lost a total of 11 seniors. Buehler and Hartnett contributed 30 of the 88 team goals last season, but the rest of the returners only contributed 18 tallies combined. So there should be an opportunity for some of the freshman, like Milton teammates Cole Morrissette (F, '17) and Elliot Vorel (F, '17) to contribute on the offensive end for Wesleyan.

In net, sophomore Nolan Daley (G, '16) returns having played in 11 games in his rookie year. Daley looked impressive at times, including a big 46 save shutout against Williams in early February. He'll be joined by prep school product Dawson Sprigings (G, '17), who made the NHL Central Scouting list of draft prospects in 2012.
