Tufts 0
Middlebury 3
FINAL
1st Period: Greg Jenkins in net for Tufts. Despite winning against Colby last week in his first start since November, Mike Peters can't win Bill Beaney's confidence and the Panthers fourth goalie, Liam Moorfield-Yee makes his second start of the season. Looks like Jakes Charles, who is fourth on Middlebury in points despite only playing in six games, is in the lineup.
Middlebury outshoots Tufts 9-5 but can't capitalize on their two power play opportunities and the period ends scoreless.
2nd Period: After a period and a half of scoreless hockey in both NESCAC games, Middlebury's Louis Belisle, the Quebecois assasin, scores his team leading 12th goal of the season on a wrap around; assist to Brendan McGovern. Unofficial shot total at the end of 2 has the Panthers in front 20-12.
3rd Period: Derek Pimentel scores his ninth goal of the season with 9:18 left for the insurance goal for the Panthers. Charles, leaving right where he left off, gets one of the assists on the play. Pimentel scores again at 16:32 of the period on a feed from Mike Najar to give the Panthers a commanding 3-0 lead.
Liam Moorfield-Yee makes 14 saves and gets the shutout, which in Bill Beaney's goalie rotation means he probably won't play for a month. The win also pulls Middlebury into a threeway tie for fourth with Bowdoin and Colby, but the Panthers have played one less game than the two Maine schools.
Conn College 0
Williams 1
FINAL
1st Period: Mike Petchnoka in net for Conn College, Sean Dougherty for Williams. The Ephs get some good opportunities after sloppy Conn College defensive play but can't capitalize. Conn College was unable to score on the sole special teams opportunity of the opening frame.
2nd Period: Penalties are the story of the second. Williams goes on their first power play of the evening in the first five minutes, but captain Paul Steinig gets called for a slashing call midway through the man advantage. No one scores on the 4-4 and Conn College can not score on their pp.
With 11:41 remaining the Camels go to the box for the second Ephs power play of the evening. About thirty seconds later CC goes to the box again and then another penalty less than a minute later. Too much 5-3 puck and Greg Johnsons scores at the 10:04 mark to put the Ephs up 1-0.
Later in the period, Conn College goes on their third power play of the evening and can't capitalize, followed by matching minors. Williams NSN announcer, himself supposedly a USA Hockey registered ref, is incredulous that the coincidental penalties resulted in a faceoff on the other end of the ice.
3rd Period: Williams, channeling their inner 1990 New Jersey Devils, utilize the dump and defend strategy in the first half of the 3rd period. Scary moment for Ephs with 9:10 remaining as Dougherty's helmet comes off after a collision. He's visible shake up, but he stays in the game.
Camels pull Petchnoka with 1:25 to play but he has to come back in after an icing call with a minute remaining. They get him back to the bench for the extra skater soon after, but they are unable to score a goal. Dougherty earns his second shutout of the season and we find out that Conn College isn't contractually obligated to play in OT, it just seems that way.
