Non-Conference Roundup 1/17/14

Manhattanville Valiants (9-6-0)    1
Williams Ephs  (9-2-2)                 4

It was over when..: Williams scored four unanswered goals across the second and third periods to erase a 1-0 deficit after one period. The win snaps the Ephs lengthy one game losing streak and hands Manhattanville only its second loss in the Valiants last eight games. Four of those eight games have been against the 'Cac with wins against Conn College and Tufts and loses to Trinity and Williams.

In the battle of junior goalies, Sean Dougherty (G, '15) made 21 saves to improve to 8-2-2 and Brian Fleming (G, '15) stopped 24 Ephs shots to fall to 2-3-0. Williams was 2/6 on the power play to Manhattanville's 1/4.

Player of the Game: Frankie Mork (D, '17) The Ephs say Mork had three points, the box score says two, but either way it is the freshman from Victoria, MN's third straight multi-point game.

Plattsburgh Cardinals 14-1-2     4
Middlebury Panthers 6-5-2           2

It was over when...: Plattsburgh put in a goal with 1:02 remaining to seal the game 4-2. It's the second win over Middlebury this season for the Cardinals as they beat the Panthers in the finals of the Primelink Shootout over Thanksgiving weekend.

Panther goalie Mike Peters (G. '15) was pulled in the first period of that PrimeLink game after giving up three goals in favor of senior Nick BonDurant (G, '14). Peters, who had played ever minute in net through the first 5 and 1/3 games until that point, hasn't played since. BonDurant has seen the bulk of the minutes since then but two other goalies have seen action as well. The Choate product made 25 saves last night and fell to 2-3-0 on the season. For the Cardinals, Mathieu Cadieux (G, '14) had 28 saves to move to 13-1-2 on the season.

Louis Belisle (D/F, '14) scored on a rebound for his Middlebury leading ninth goal and Derek Pimentel (F, '15) also put home a rebound for his team leading seventeenth point (7-10-17) in defeat. The Panthers went 0-5 on the power play, while Plattsburgh went 1/7 on the man advantage. Surrending seven power plays is less then ideal when trying to upset the number three team in the country.

Player of the game: Mathieu Cadieux (G, '14) The rocksteady former Quinnipiac backup has only given up more than two goals on two occasions this season. Plattsburgh has a solid d, but an equally solid netminder.
