Rapid Reaction 2/22/14 night games

Williams 14-6-3 (10-4-3 NESCAC)    3
Hamilton 5-14-4 (4-11-2 NESCAC)   1

All Ephs scoring occurred in the second period to setup a showdown with bĂȘte noire Amherst for the second seed tomorrow in Williamstown. The loss eliminates Hamilton from playoff contention and sets up our only confirmed Quarterfinal matchup between #1 Trinity and #8 Wesleyan.

Hamilton had their chances, including two posts and a disallowed goal - all in the first five minutes of the third-but were unable to beat Sean Dougherty until 1:07 remained in the third period. The Continentals now play the role of spoiler as they head to Vermont tomorrow to conclude their season against Middlebury. The Panthers clinch the fourth seed with a win over Hamilton and Bill Beaney's team would then host the Bowdoin Polar Bears in the NESCAC Quarters. A Middlebury tie or loss would give the four seed to Bowdoin and the two teams would meet in Brunswick instead of Middlebury for the quarters.

Amherst 13-7-3 (11-4-2 NESCAC)          2
Middlebury 10-10-3 (8-7-2 NESCAC)   3

Robbie Dobrowski's first goal of the season broke a 2-2 tie in the third and gave the Panthers a chance at a home-ice playoff game if they can beat Hamilton on Sunday afternoon. The Conts were eliminated from playoff contention tonight, but teams with nothing to play for can be dangerous; just ask Bowdoin. The Polar Bears needed a win/tie this afternoon against last place Tufts to wrap up the four seed, but were unable to do so. For Amherst, as mentioned above, they play Williams for the two seed tomorrow. If Williams wins, they host #7 Conn College and Amherst gets #6 Colby. If Amherst wins or they tie, the Lord Jeffs get the seventh seed Camels and Williams gets the sixth seed Mules, a rematch of last year's #2/#7 Quarterfinals.
