Non Conference Finals 11/30/14

Two NESCAC teams fell from the ranks of the unbeaten on Sunday, but the 'Cac went 4-2 overall to increase the season OOC record to 14-8-0.

Max Fenkell (G, '15) made 27 saves for his third shutout in four starts this year and the Bowdoin offense scored eight goals, including four power plays, in the game played at Colby.  Matt Lison (F, '18) scored two goals and Cullen Geary (D, '18) put in his first collegiate goal as seven different Polar Bears scored. Bowdoin outscored ECAC-NE opponents 14-1 on the weekend.  The 10th ranked (USCHO and D3Hockey.com) Polar Bears play their first games of the season outside the confines of Maine when they take on Conn College and Tufts this upcoming weekend.

The Beacons scored four unanswered goals in the second and third after Trinity took a 3-1 lead early in the second frame on a Liam Mckillop (F, '15) tally. Sean Orlando (F, '17) scored the two Bantam goals in the first. The nation's D-III leading scorer, Stephen Buco (F, '15) put in two tallies for UMB, including an empty net goal. Nate Heilbron (G, '16) made 27 saves as the Bantams fell from the ranks of the unbeaten. They'll travel to upstate New York this weekend for non-conference games against Utica and Hobart. The game at the Aud on Friday is the annual Teddy Bear Toss.

Topher Flanagan (F, '16) scored the only goal of the game in the first as Dave Cunningham (G,  '16) made 27 saves for his second shutout of the season. Fresh off a three-win non-conference week and their first appearance in a poll this season (#15 USCHO), Amherst heads to Middlebury and Williams for league games this weekend.

Williams surrendered goals in the second, third and OT periods to relinquish a 2-0 lead after one on goals by frosh David Italiano (F, '18) and Dan Doherty (F, '18) (his first collegiate goal). 14 of the Ephs 24 goals this season have now been scored by freshman. The  Ephs loss coupled with Trinity's loss leaves Bowdoin as the only undefeated team left in the NESCAC. The Ephs host Hamilton and Amherst this weekend.

Devin Albert (F, '17) had a hat trick and an assist to complete a seven point (4-3-7) weekend while Jordan Nathan (G, '15) stopped 26 shots for his first career shutout. Nathan, who went 0-13-4 in his first three seasons as a Mule, is now 2-0-0 on the season with both wins coming this past weekend. The Colby line of  Albert-Rauseo-Benicky played very well in the Bowdoin/Colby Faceoff Classic, will be interesting to see how they fare in league games as Colby leaves Maine for the first time this season against Tufts and Conn College.

Jay Matthews (F, '16) and James Kline (F, '17 ) had two goals apiece and Dawson Sprigings (G, '17) had 30 saves for the Cardinals victory. Wesleyan heads to upstate New York this upcoming weekend for tilts with the ECAC-West squads Hobart and Elmira.
