Conference and Non Conference Roundup 1/7/17 and 1/8/17

Williams (5-4-2; 4-2-2 NESCAC)    4
Wesleyan (7-4-1; 3-3-0 NESCAC)     1
Box Score

Williams rebounded from a loss at Trinity thanks to a pair of CJ Shuggart goals (one an empty netter) to seal the game in the third period. Sophomore George Blinick made the start in net for the Cardinals, letting up his first three collegiate goals on 26 shots to fall to 2-1-0 the year.

Bowdoin (6-6-0; 3-5-0 NESCAC)      3
Hamilton (5-0-2;10-0-2 NESCAC)   6
Box Score

Seven goals were scored in a wild third period with Hamilton coming out on top to remain the only unbeaten team in NCAA men's hockey.  Junior Brandon Willett's empty net goal sealed the game and his first career hat trick.  His hat trick combined with two assists against Colby the night before earned him NESCAC Player of the Week honors on Monday.

Colby (5-4-1; 4-3-1 NESCAC)        2
Amherst (7-3-1; 3-3-1 NESCAC)   3
Box Score

Junior Conor Girard made 31 saves to lift the Purple and White (soon to be Hamsters?) to their fourth straight wins after a three game losing streak.  Colby is headed in the other direction with the Mules third straight loss. Frosh Pat Daly also tacked on his team lading ninth goal in the victory.

Middlebury (0-11-1; 0-8-0 NESCAC)     2
Trinity (8-3-1; 4-2-0 NESCAC)              5
Box Score

Both Cole brothers scored and the Bantams outshot the Panthers 49-17 en route to a comfortable victory for the host Bants.  Middlebury's quest for their first victory does not have an auspicious outlook for the coming week with rivalry non-conference tilts at home against 2nd ranked Norwich and on the road at traditional DIII powerhouse Plattsburgh.

Tufts (6-3-2)
Tufts spent the weekend at a tournament hosted by one of the newest DIII teams, Endicott College. On Saturday, the Jumbos fell in the opening round, 3-2 to Plymouth State (Box) with the Jumbos Nick Balboa notching his first collegiate tally (Mason Pulde made 34 saves in defeat). The Jumbos jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period against nationally ranked Neumann (#11/15) in the consolation game thanks to Balboa's second of the weekend/his career and junior Brian Brown's team leading seventh tally of the season. The Knights, however, struck back with three goals in the third to earn the 3-3 tie (Box). Junior Nik Nugnes made 43 saves on the afternoon for Tufts.
