The Lowdown: I get knocked down, but I get up again...
Colby comes into Williamstown off a hard fought 5-3 loss at Middlebury. Williams suffered a tough loss against Bowdoin 4-1 last night in a game that could have put them in contention for first place in the NESCAC.
No mind, both teams need to forget about last night and get ready for the standard NESCAC Saturday afternoon quick turn around. Colby still has a chance at the eighth spot (and thus a playoff berth) and needs points in the worst way. Williams is tied with Amherst (13 pts.) and with the Lord Jeffs playing a non-conference affair, the Ephs will have the same number of league games as Amherst after today. They also need to keep pace with Middlebury (12 pts.) and Trinity (11 pts) nipping at their heels
The teams first met in Waterville, ME on November 17th with Williams taking the contest 3-2. The Mules outshot the Ephs 36-26.
Key(s) to the game: Counting shots...
The Williams game was one of only three times the Mules have out shot opponents this year. It's obvious to say you want to out shoot your opponents, but Colby could especially use a lower shot count from the Ephs in a day game after a night game in which the Mules played in an olympic sized rink and let up 38 shots.
For Williams, they have let up 36+ shots in two of their last three games. Playing against a team that had 4 shots on goal in a game against Amherst might be just what the doctor ordered for the Ephs shots allowed.
Players to watch
Colby - Scott Harff (D, Sr.) The senior transfer from D-1 Brown University (Go Bruno!) scored his only goal of the year against Williams, but he does have have a three game point streak going.
Williams - Peter Mistretta (F, So.) now has a three game goal streak going and has three times as many goals (9-5-14) as the next leading scorer on the team.
Chumbawamba was around for three plus decades, but were best remembered for their 90s hit "Tubthumping" (The "I get knocked down..." song). In honor of the Mules and Ephs getting back up from last night's losses, here's a live version of their hit from "The David Letterman Show."
