The Lowdown: Pullin' rank
Both teams enter this mid-week, non-conference match-up nationally ranked. Babson, who knocked off then top ranked Norwich last Sunday, comes in at #14 and on a 9-1 tear. Williams moved up a spot to #12 despite their heartbreaking loss to now #9 Plattsburgh on Saturday night. Williams had been hot prior to the loss, going undefeated in seven games (6-0-1).
This is the 39th meeting of the codfish state teams, with the Ephs holding a 19-17-2 series edge in the east state/west state rivalry. Williams looks to continue its seven game unbeaten streak (6-0-1) against the Beavers, who haven't beaten the Ephs since 2008.
Key(s) to the game: Act...don't react
Both teams are coming into the game on opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. While Williams' loss was a non-conference game, it was still a bitter defeat because of their 4-1 third period lead. And even though this is a non conference game as well, the Ephs certainly don't want to head into their Friday match-up with conference leading (and #4 team in the country) Bowdoin on a losing streak.
On the other side, Babson won decisively on the road against against a conference opponent and number 1 team in the country. They must avoid a post big game let down against a spirited Williams squad if they want to break their losing streak in the rivalry.
Players to Watch
Williams - Noah Klag (G, Fr.) Will the freshman goaltender get his first start in net? With four games in nine days and coming off an OT game with over 40 shots, Dougherty might get the night off.
Babson - PT Donato (F, Sr.) The Beaver senior features one of the more interesting stat lines you will see, with a solid 13 points on the season, all off assists (0-13-13). Can he get his first goal?
