USCHO And D3Hockey.com polls November 11, 2013

It may be Veterans Day, but United States College Hockey Online (USCHO) and D3Hockey.com didn't take the day off. Both online publications have released the third installments of their respective polls.

USCHO
In the USCHO poll, Bowdoin remains at seventh while Williams climbs back into the poll at 14th after a one week absence thanks in large part to their...doing nothing at all, the NESCAC season hasn't started yet. Amherst makes its first appearance, sneaking in at number 15 after a week of practices and no games, because, again, the NESCAC season doesn't start until Friday. Trinity and Middlebury also received votes.

Among the teams that actually played, the biggest movement came from Utica, who fell four spots from fifth to ninth after a tough 3-2 loss to then ninth ranked Hobart in front of a sold-out crowd at the Aud. Hobart moves up one spot to eighth after beating the Pioneers. The largest upward movement came from the Wisconsin-Steven Point Pointers (type of tracking dog used in hunting), who jumped four spots from tenth to sixth after a weekend blowout sweep of Gustavus Adolphus and St. Olaf to remain unbeaten at 4-0-0. Amherst's rise to the ranks of the ranked was aided by the previously 15th ranked St. John's Johnnies falling below .500 on the young season at 1-2-0 and the previously 12th ranked UMass-Boston Beacons losing to New England College to fall from the poll. It was not a good weekend to be an alliteratively named team.

The bitter rival Lord Jeffs of Amherst and Ephs of Williams are no strangers to being one spot away from each other in rankings. The highly in demand but controversial U.S. News and World Report  Liberal Arts College Rankings  have Williams first and Amherst second. While Williams may be one spot ahead in the academic and hockey polls, Amherst had the success in the realm of athletic actuality this past weekend. The Lord Jeffs defeated the Ephs on Saturday in the 128th installment of The Biggest Little Game in America to finish the season at 7-1 and in a three-way tie with Middlebury and Wesleyan for the 'Cac football crown. Amherst also defeated Williams in the NESCAC men's soccer final  on Sunday to win their third straight NESCAC title. Both teams ended up making the NCAA Tournament
