After defeating previously #7 Babson, Williams becomes the highest ranked NESCAC team in both polls for the first this year. The Ephs moved up three spots in both polls, from 12th to ninth in USCHO and from ninth to sixth in D3Hockey.com. Despite losing to Williams, the Beavers moved up in both polls thanks to a 2-0 blanking on Saturday of the only other NESCAC school ranked in both polls, Amherst. The Lord Jeffs fell two spots to 12th in the USCHO poll after their first loss of the year to Babson, but actually moved up a spot to tenth in D3H.
Middlebury tied previously USCHO #2 Norwich and lost to the new unanimous number one Plattsburgh Cardinals to fall from 15th in USCHO to tops in the "other receiving votes" category. The Panthers' Primelink weekend also dropped them in D3H from tenth to 11th. The tie against Norwich ended up in a shootout win to face Platty in the finals, but it only counts as a tie in the record book.
Former rankings mainstay Bowdoin received votes in both polls while Trinity received received votes in D3H.
Outside the NESCAC, heavy is the head that wears the crown. After becoming the unanimous number one in both polls last week, St. Norbert fell at home to St. Scholastica to fall from atop their perch. For the second straight week, defending national champion Wisconsin-Eau Claire lost and fell to seventh in both polls. Previously eighth ranked Utica was shocked by Morrisville on Friday, before beating up on Conn College on Saturday. Next up for the Pioneers are the Seahawks of Salve Regina, who entered the weekend receiving votes in both polls and left with losses to Wesleyan and Trinity.
